Accepted to Speak at PHP Tek 2025

I received some great news over the holidays. My conference presentations were accepted. I will speak at PHP Tek 2025! I’m very excited! I love attending conferences, but it’s an honor to be selected to speak – especially at a conference built around the PHP community. If you’ve never had the opportunity to attend a PHP conference, I highly recommend you make the effort to meet the PHP community at Tek. We’re a wonderfully nerdy bunch that love to learn. Several people who create the tools you use for PHP development, are attending Tek. So if you’re going to be in or near Chicago around 2025 May 20-22, you should attend PHP Tek.

My Accepted Presentations

I’ll be giving two presentations at PHP Tek 2025. The first talk is a sequel to a talk I gave last year – appropriately titled Better Dotfiles II – that will improve how you use your dotfiles. If you want to update your dotfiles, but need some Bash scripting guidance, this talk is for you. This will also be the first time I “live code” on stage. So tragedy and hilarity is bound to ensue. You’ll also see and learn a little about my workflow, for using the command line.

My second talk — Keeping Up with PHP — focuses on modern PHP. I’ll discuss a variety of features, and how you might use these features in your projects. This will include examples on writing your code in a more modern way. PHP has a yearly release cadence. When did you last update your version of PHP. As of this article, 8.4 is the current version, and 8.1 and 8.2 have left Active Support. Are you a couple of PHP versions behind? If so, this talk will give you some insight and motivation to upgrade to the latest and greatest PHP version.

Conclusion

I’m excited  I’ll get to speak at PHP Tek 2025 again this year. It’s an expansion year for me. I’m expanding my comfort zone for how to create presentations. It’s exciting. I’m also nervous, but in a good way. So I hope that you decide to attend PHP Tek, and that I’ll get to meet you.
