Ideas for Blog Content
Tell me if this sounds familiar. You realize that you haven’t written on your blog for a while, and started to feel guilty about it. You decide that you want to start writing again. So you login to your website dashboard, and click Add New Post. Suddenly so you realize that you “have nothing to write about”. It’s like that scene from a movie, where the young woman is standing in front of a closet full of clothes, but she complains defeatedly I have nothing to wear
. Not knowing what to write about, is the nerd version of that scenario.
Here are some thoughts on how to get past it. Start by narrowing things down. If you’re like most people, you consume a lot of information in the course of a week. Pick a couple things that you thought were interesting. They can be from anywhere — a podcast you listened to, a TV show/movie you watched, a book or article you read, a conversation you had. Take some time to reflect on it. What do you think about it? Does it relate to you? Does it touch on an society issue or current event?
When it comes to episode content – be it a podcast or TV show – focus on just one. You can save other episodes for another time. What’s your gut reaction? Then think more deeply about it, and the various parts of the content. Explore different viewpoints. Another reason to focus on one episode, is that if you binge watch, as fun as that may be, you’re not probably getting the fullest experience out of it. However, save it for when you’re not trying to write about what you’re experiencing.
When you do write about a podcast, let the podcast host know about your article. It shows that you’re paying attention to them. Everyone wants to know what their audience thinks.
Try these ideas, and let me know how things work out for you, and I’ll do the same.
