String Theory Music Project

I used to play at open mic nights. Initially, it was a way to get over stage fright. But as time went on, I got more comfortable, and began to enjoy playing for it’s own sake. It was also a great way to meet new people. I usually played a mix of covers and originals. Some places don’t allow you to play covers though. So at those places, I’d play my originals. They’re ok, but my songs were never really polished to my satisfaction. In all honesty, I’d rather play other peoples songs. There are so many great songs, but a single voice and guitar doesn’t always cut it. Some songs only sound good with a band. There were some that you just can’t do justice to without multiple voices and guitars.

Well, I’ve been missing playing out at places. What I’d really love to do is get a few people together to play shows for a few months around Seattle. What would the make up of the band be? What’s different about this is that it’d be all string instruments. So no drums, no piano/keyboards, no horns/woodwinds. Just strings and voices. I play rhythm guitar and sing. I’d need another rhythm guitar (preferably can play a 6 or 12 string), a lead guitar (preferably can sing backup – ooh and ahhs is ok), and a bassist who can sing. If you play another string instrument like violin, ping me. We might be able to create interesting arrangements. If you’re just a singer, but you’re awesome, ping me.

I’m thinking a schedule of playing once a week for 2-3 months. The practices depend on how good/bad we are. The playlist would be most if not all of these songs. Some of these are widely known, some not so much – but they’re all great songs.

  1. Amie – Pure Prarie League
  2. Closer to Fine – Indigo Girls
  3. Eyes – Rogue Wave
  4. Gypsy – Fleetwood Mac
  5. Keep on Trying – Poco
  6. Love Song – Tesla
  7. Mrs Robinson – Simon & Garfunkel
  8. Night Moves – Bob Seger
  9. Patience – Guns N Roses
  10. Rhiannon – Fleetwood Mac
  11. Sister Golden Hair – America
  12. Take It Easy – The Eagles
  13. The Weight – The Band

It’s possible this may never get off the ground. But we’ll never know unless you contact me.
