Mute OS X with Alfred

On occasion, it’s nice to be able to temporarily mute your mac. Whether you’re taking a brief phone call, or would just rather not listen to the TV commercials, this is a nice little tool for your toolbox. Yes, there’s a mute button on your keyboard. However, unless you’re playing media like netflix or itunes, it could be a while before you realize that your computer is still muted.

To solve this, I created an Alfred workflow to make it easy for you to temporarily mute your Mac. Download the workflow and import it into Alfred. The default value is 60 seconds. The Alfred keyword is ‘mute‘.

Examples

mute      // turns off sound for 60 seconds
mute 5    // turns off sound for 5 seconds
mute 90 // turns off sound for 90 seconds
